School Open Visual Arts Competition 2018
We invite you to the private view and prize giving ceremony for the above Visual Arts Competition. This event will showcase 2D, 3D, and Photography work by Y7 – 9 , Y10-13 students (aged 11 – 19) and a new catagory for 2018 the Year 12 and Above (in full term education) who live in or attend school in Taunton Deane. The competition features cash awards, certificates of merit and a 2 and a half week long public exhibition of selected entries at Taunton Library, Paul Street, Taunton.
Competition Details
The Taunton Live Arts Competition will this year accept entries in three age groups:
• Years 7-9
• Years 10-11
• Year 12 and above (studying full-time in Taunton Deane)
Artwork for the competition should be entered in one of the following categories:
• 2D: painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, collage
• 3D: ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, construction
• Photography
Eligibility and Rules
All students living in or attending school in Taunton Deane are invited to participate. Students may submit only one art piece per category, but may enter more than one category.
Artwork must be created while the student attends school/college. During the registration process, students will be asked to list their teacher’s name for artwork that was created in class during school. We want to acknowledge the contribution of Art Teachers on behalf of our students and community. Artwork that was created outside of school may submitted so long as the work was done while attending school.
Judges/Judging Criteria
An independent panel of judges with experience in (practicing, teaching, or representing) the categories will judge the competition. The criteria used for judging are:
• Creativity and originality
• Content
• Degree of expertise in the chosen medium
(Remember, presentation is important, and the 2D art and/or Photography will show better if carefully framed.)

Awards
Private View and Awards
A private view at which prizes will be presented will be held at Taunton Library – on Wednesday July 18th (Time to be announced) Cash prizes will be awarded for the best in each category.

Gallery Details
Entries accepted for the competition will be on display for public viewing at Taunton Library from Wednesday July 18th until Saturday July 29th during normal library opening hours.
(All art work will need to be collected from the Library gallery on Monday July 30th between 10am and 4pm)
Important: Artwork Preparation
Remember that your art will be displayed at a professional art exhibition; therefore presentation and preparation is important. The library has a wire and hook hanging system.
All 2D work should be fixed with D-rings about one third of the way down with string for hanging and be clearly labelled with name of artist, school attended, title of work, medium and price (if for sale).

Delivery of art work for the competition
All artwork for the competition should be delivered to Taunton Library between 10am and noon, on Monday July 16th 2018.
Winners
Winners will be notified by phone call to teacher at students’ school/college by 4.00pm on Monday 16th July, 2018.
We would like winners to make every effort to attend the Private View & Prize-giving on July 18th at Taunton Library.
