New for 2017 | Schools’ Y7-Y9 Visual Arts Competition
A further competition for students in Y7-9 will be added to this year’s Taunton Live, giving the opportunity for all students attending school in the borough of Taunton Deane to participate.
The competition for Y7-Y9 students will link to the multi-cultural theme of celebrating the diversity of culture within our town borough and county. This competition will have three categories as with Schools’ Open Competition:
This event will showcase 2D, 3D, and Photography work by Y7 – Y9 students (aged 11 – 14) who live in or attend school in Taunton Deane. The competition features Restaurant vouchers from Pizza Express who have sponsored the awards, certificates of merit and a month long public exhibition of selected entries at The Brewhouse Theatre, Taunton.
The Taunton Live Y7-Y9 Arts Competition will accept entries for:
- 2D:painting, drawing, printmaking, mixed media, collage
- 3D:ceramics, sculpture, jewellery, construction
along the theme of “CLIMATE”. The theme may be interpreted in any way by the artist, but the link to the title “Climate” must be apparent and explained on the entry form.
Eligibility and Rules
All Y7-9 students living in or attending school in Taunton Deane are invited to participate. Students may submit only one art piece per category, but may enter more than one category.
Artwork must be created while the student attends school. During the registration process, students will be asked to list their teacher’s name for artwork that was created in class during school. We want to acknowledge the contribution of Art Teachers on behalf of our students and community. Artwork that was created outside of school may submitted as long as the work was done while attending school.
An independent panel of judges with experience in (practicing, teaching, or representing) the categories will judge the competition. The criteria used for judging are:
- Creativity and originality
- Degree of expertise in the chosen medium
Remember, presentation is important, and your 2D art and/or Photography will show better if carefully framed.
